The birch, one of the symbols of Russia, underscores my connection to my homeland. This sculpture contains my mixed feelings about visiting Russia: longing to see loved ones, intermingled with a profound sense of insecurity- the totalitarian regime of my homeland persecutes those who dare to speak out against the government.
